Is Facebook Dead As A Social Platform?

It’s almost impossible to imagine a world without Facebook.

A go-to resource for checking out local businesses, stalking your ex, or finding out with those kids you went to high school with are up to now.

What started out as a way for Harvard students to connect with each other has grown into a multinational communication platform bigger than Ben Hur!

There is no denying that Facebook’s demise would drastically change the way we have learnt to communicate online.

But, is that demise starting to happen now?

With newer, hotter platforms on the market, has Facebook had its day? Is it dead as a social platform?

Well, you shouldn’t give up on the world's most popular social platform just yet!

Here’s why...

Is Facebook Dead?

How Does It Compare To Other Platforms?

Although it seems ancient compared to some of its more youthful counterparts, like TikTok or Snapchat, Facebook is still the king of all social networks.

At the start of 2019, 1.56 billion people actively used the social media platform every day. Now, it has over 1.79 billion daily users and 2.7 billion monthly users. Yes, over 2,000,000,000 people, from youth to seniors, use Facebook every month.

That means you are pretty much guaranteed to find people in your target market scrolling their newsfeeds on a daily basis. As a business, you simply can’t afford to ignore Facebook.

Facebook Or Instagram?

As a platform, Facebook has everything you need to grow your business. You just need to know how to use it.

Recently, many business owners have begun switching their energies to Instagram. The Gram seems to be the social platform that is winning the popularity contest at the moment. But, is it better than FB?

Facebook and Instagram both provide the option to post to a business account, add images, upload videos and pen written captions. However, the vibe of these platforms are very different and should be utilised in different ways to extend your audience.

While older and not necessarily considered the platform of the minute, Facebook still trumps Instagram. On average, each user spends at least 40 minutes a day scrolling Facebook. That is a lot of time to capture their attention and get recognition for your brand.

Facebook also makes it easy for people to connect with you via Private message, click a link to your website or landing page, post videos, and create conversation through comments, shares and polls.

Instagram has 1 billion active users every month. While that seems like a large number, many of their users are under the age of 30, with a large portion being in their teens. Unfortunately, not a lot of teenagers are hunting out local businesses on social platforms!

Getting The Most Out Of The Platform

Like anything, you need to have a strategy to get the most out of a marketing initiative. Facebook is no different. Simply throwing up a random image or constant spammy sales messages is not going to get you the results you want.

Facebook is about building relationships with your followers, creating brand exposure, and building trust. Without trust in your business, people are very unlikely to buy from you as trust hugely impacts a person’s purchasing decision.

To ensure you are gaining audience attention, you need to produce content that is relevant and engaging. That should be relevant to both your audience and to your business persona.

You can get a lot of traction out of the platform without having to pay to advertise. You simply need to take the time to build relationships with your audience and encourage them to engage with your content. This helps to boost your organic reach.

When creating your posts, ensure you include a call to action and get people to actively engage with your content by commenting, sharing and liking the post.

If You Want To Pay To Play

While you can make a huge impact with the right organic content, there is the option to dial it up and pay to advertise on Facebook’s platform also.

Since its launch in 2004, Facebook has transformed from a Harvard University connection network to one of the worlds most effective marketing tools.

Facebook can be your business best friend due to its highly effective paid advertising tool. Through the tool, you can specifically target an advertisement to an audience based on their gender, age, interests, location and more.

This means that you can market your product to the exact audience that is likely to buy it. It may even be an audience that you would not have been able to reach otherwise.

It Is Here To Stay!

Social Media can make or break your business. It is essential for spreading brand awareness and connecting authentically with your target audience.

There’s no denying your target audience is on Facebook, you just need to find them, and engage with them. The platform may be ageing, but with its constant evolution it’s definitely not to be forgotten about!
